Three plays later, he hit Austin Nolan with a 15-yard strike to the 27. On the next play burned Fayetteville for a go-ahead score.
Fayetteville extended its lead to 17-7 on its first possession of the second half. Gahagans capped a brisk seven-play, 71-yard drive by scoring from the 2 with less than nine minutes left in the third.
Allen completed 22-of-32 passes for 268 yards, overcame his third interception of the season and some fourth quarter leg cramps to give the Bulldogs their second 10-win season in school history. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych][/u]
Southside held Fayetteville on its next possession, but a three-and-out gave the Bulldogs more than one minute to change the scoreboard. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych][/u]
The Bulldogs drove to Southside's 19 following the Rebels' score, but a series of events - including cramps to both of Allen's legs, which forced him to miss some plays - caused the drive stall at the Rebels' 30.
But the Rebels left too much time on the clock for Allen.
"The kids kept believing and they didn't give up," Fayetteville coach Daryl Patton said. "Brandon made a great throw to Troy right off the bat. That was just a textbook drive."
After two running plays and an incomplete pass, Whorton hit sophomore John Hunton with a 3-yard touchdown pass which tied the game with 3:44 left in the half.
Working both sides of the field, Allen drove Fayetteville to the Rebels' 26 where Max Coffin trotted out to attempt a 45-yard field goal with three seconds left in the half. Following an offside against Southside, Coffin nailed a 40-yard field goal that hooked just inside the right upright that gave the Bulldogs a 10-7 halftime lead. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych][/u]
Fayetteville's Brice Gahagans capped a 14-play drive midway through the second quarter by plunging in from the 2 on fourth-and-1.
Fayetteville (10-3) plays unbeaten Bentonville (12-0) Friday in the 7A championship game at Little Rock's War Memorial Stadium.

The Rebels, who drove to Fayetteville's 15 on their initial possession before turning the ball over on downs, took advantage of two crucial third- and fourth-down pass plays on its scoring drive.
The teams traded long second-quarter scoring drives, though the Rebels' 70-yard march included a 47-yard pass from Whorton to McGee. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych][/u]
Trailing 17-7 at the start of the fourth quarter, the Rebels' [link widoczny dla zalogowanych][/u] scored from 2 yards with 10:49 remaining to pull Southside to 17-14. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych][/u], who ran wild at Fayetteville earlier in the season, had only 46 rushing yards in Friday's loss.
"The guy's a great football player," Southside coach Jeff Williams said of Allen. "We gave them a bit of a cushion and he put his team on his shoulders and carried them."

Faced with a third-and-4 at the 36, Whorton hit David Price with a 10-yard pass to the 46. Two plays later, McGee got behind Davone Crawford for 47 yards to the Bulldogs' 6.
"We're a quick-strike offense,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Allen said. "(Southside's defense was) playing back on that last series and it worked out."
Southside coach Jeff Williams has been in the middle of a number of frenzied playoff victories in recent years. Friday, he was on the other end of one.

Whorton, who had three consecutive come-from-behind wins in last season's postseason run, drove the Rebels' 93 yards for their go-ahead score without the help of a timeout. It was almost a repeat of last season's semifinal win against North Little Rock, where he threw a winning touchdown to beat the Charging Wildcats with 10 seconds remaining.
After Hunter Whorton's 27-yard touchdown pass to Jordan McGee gave the Rebels their first lead of the game with 55 seconds left, Fayetteville quarterback Brandon Allen threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Bradley Culp with 27 seconds left as the Bulldogs rallied for a 24-21 win in the 7A semifinals at Rowland Stadium.
